Known respectively as Washining Lake (East Twin Lake) and Washinee Lake (West Twin Lake), the Twin Lakes are calcareous lakes, home to several rare aquatic plants, and surrounded by northern and central hardwoods. Located in Salisbury, Connecticut, the lakes flow north into Massachusetts and form the headwaters of Schenob Brook. Washining and Washinee lakes have been used for recreational fishing, boating, and swimming since the late 1800's. Today homes on the Washining Lake & Washinee Lake command some of the highest waterfront property values for direct lakefront anywhere in the region and the Twin Lakes have become an idyllic high-end Adirondack-esque retreat only two hours from Manhattan.
