Lime Rock Park is not only inseparably entwined in the history of motorsports, but it has also produced indelible memories for many of its fans.
It is Lime Rock's fans, after all, who have made Lime Rock what it is today; one of the most respected and beloved road courses in the country. Lime Rock has always said that it's fans are as much a part of its heritage as any driver, race car, or series.
Lime Rock Park is closer than you think. And, no matter where you are coming from, it is impossible to get to Lime Rock Park without already improving your mood. Miles of flowing and undulating two-lane roads that follow the Housatonic River surround Lime Rock Park. As you get closer to the track, the Berkshire Mountains begin to dominate more and more of the landscape, making the short drive to Lime Rock Park worth the trip.
Lawn Chairs and Coolers?
Once you get to Lime Rock Park, the first thing you will notice is that you have arrived in a natural amphitheater. Green hills surround the track in every direction, making a perfect backdrop for everything that happens at Lime Rock Park. Whether you park in the outfield or drive on in to the infield, it will take but ten minutes to get to anywhere else on the grounds.
The only problem might be all the distractions on hand between your car and where you want to sit?
No need for an usher here - Lime Rock Park has never had a grandstand, and never will. And with both the outfield and infield hillsides making for perfect viewing, why would we want to add some ugly stands?
The grassy ground makes an ideal place to throw out a blanket and set up your own little picnic. We encourage our fans to bring a cooler full of favorites, and even if you didn't bring a blanket, no worries, you can get one here. Feeling envious that other fans brought their folding chairs? That's not a problem, either, there is a whole selection available for sale on the midway.
With the mountainside backdrop and grassy hillside surrounding the track, the view from the infield hillside is one of the best in sports, even before a car gets on the track. The view is almost uninterrupted, save for a lone oak tree. Sure, we could cut it down, but that just wouldn't fly around here.
Distractions aplenty at Lime Rock Park?
Just a hundred yards from the infield spectating area is the midway. With over fifty different displays at every race, the midway is the place to find a souvenir, get a hot dog or a glass of wine, or take a tour through one of the special displays on offer during every major event. You can get a taste of what the surrounding Lime Rock Park community has to offer at the "Locals on the Green" display, or find that collector's 1:18 scale car you just haven't been able to find on Ebay.
Kids a little too excited? Let them burn off some of that energy jumping around the inflated moon-bounce, or competing in some of the fun activities that the Big Y Kids Club hosts every major race weekend.
Create new memories as you take your kids to meet their hero at an autograph session with the drivers, or get up close to the winners as they celebrate their victory and spray the champagne while you watch (stay dry!) just a few feet away.
Free backstage passes?just what is the paddock?
Imagine being able to just walk right into the locker room of a big sporting event before the kickoff, or mingling with the band and eating a few of their green M & M's before they take to the stage.
That's the closest thing to what you can do in Lime Rock Park's Paddock.
The paddock is where all the cars are worked on between sessions, where the drivers hang out before strapping into the car and taking to the track, and where you can get the closest view of all the high, and some times low-technology machines before they take a turn in high-speed motion out on the track.
The paddock is open and free for everyone at Lime Rock Park during the major events, so you can just let gravity take over (it's an easy walk down the hill!) and explore all the people and machines in the paddock.
Why go camping?at a race track??
With over 325 acres of rolling landscape set against the mountain ridge backdrop, Lime Rock Park is an outdoor playground for kids and grown-ups alike. The Appalachian Trail goes right through Main Street in nearby Salisbury, and there are even fans who bring their fishing poles to every event to pass some peaceful time fishing in the creek that runs along the front stretch of the track.
Camping at Lime Rock Park is a destination in its own right, and that there happens to be some big-time racing going on right there is only a bonus for some campers. There is always a line of eager campers waiting at the gate before every major event, eager to get in and to set up camp on their favorite spot in the designated camping area overlooking the backstretch at Lime Rock Park.
There is no better way to be fully connected to a race weekend at Lime Rock Park than to fall asleep to the sound of a campfire, and wake up to the sound of race engines warming up.
